Artifact No.37 - Big Haired Clown

Normally, when making the write-up for our artifacts, I try to use Google image search to determine information about the item and to see if other items like this exist somewhere online, but this time, Google is stumped. And honestly, we’re just as stumped. There are no identifying tags, no “made in” stamps and no similar images online. Which leads me to believe it may be handmade. Chris even wondered if it was maybe part of a “do it yourself” kit, but we can’t find anything like that either.

The hair is yellow and extremely poofy, plus the face appears to be drawn on using markers. The outfit for sure is handmade and was sewn shut by hand in the back. It is dressed in a red polka dot jumpsuit with two white pompoms on the front. It’s also wearing two yellow and brown hand-knit shoes. On its back is a pull cord, and when you pull the cord, it plays music, although I have no idea what song it is playing. I have given a video clip to Chris for our social media so you can go over and take a listen. Let us know if you know what song it is.

Because this clown appears to be the only one of its kind, I took measurements. It is 26cm wide and 32cm tall.

The clown would make a great vessel to hold evil spirits. It could be a fun birthday gift to be given to a child by their "weird" uncle or aunt. It could even be a fun way to tell a person in your life with coulrophobia that you hope you never have to see them again. The possibilities are endless!
