Artifact No.29 - Vintage Tin Chicken Toy New Product

$50.00

This artifact is a tin chicken, and it lays eggs! It even comes with a couple of eggs and its original box. It would have been manufactured in the 1960s in China. Google tells us that China was apparently a hub for producing mechanical tin toys in the 60s.

The chicken is in “well-loved” condition, so we can’t guarantee it works or is free of damage. Keep in mind, 1960 is 66 years ago. That’s extremely old for a chicken!

We have not put batteries into this chicken to make sure it works, but at one point, it would have squawked and laid eggs. This chicken looks a bit out of place in our shop because it’s not the typical “creepy” item we carry, but it does spark joy, and the chicken’s mischievous little face does sometimes make us wonder if she’s plotting something. Cheeky little bird! She’s plotting evil things. We just know it.

In Flemish folklore, chickens were associated with the devil, and it was believed that if you took a chicken or rooster to a specific crossroads, you could summon the devil.

Maybe you know someone who collects chickens. Or you want a chicken on your coffee table as a conversation piece. Maybe you have a deal to make with the devil. Or perhaps you know someone who is afraid of chickens, and you want to give them a good scare! Whatever the purpose, this is the tin chicken for you!
