Artifact No. 65 - Doll in Handmade Dress

180,81 zł (plus tax)

Meet Lucy! The doll was made sometime between 1946 and 1959. Plastic dolls were popular post-WWII, due to a scarcity of traditional doll-making materials. She also has a hole in the back of her neck, so she is what's considered a "crier doll", although she doesn't make sound anymore.

Like many of our dolls, Lucy was found at a local thrift shop. What makes her very unique is that the clothing she is wearing is handmade, including her shoes. The colours of the fabric suggest that the dress was likely made in the 70s, so Lucy was probably a hand-me-down.

There is a feeling of panic when you hold her. It's almost like Lucy survived a traumatic event, like a house fire. If nothing else, she is missing her pinky finger on her left hand. It looks like it was cut off with scissors.  But what's weirdest about Lucy is that she was the only doll in the store without a price tag, and when we brought the doll to the cash register to buy her, the sales associate commented that she'd never seen the doll in the store before.

Did someone sneak in and drop off their haunted doll? We're not sure. But it does seem weird to have the store associate comment that she had never seen the doll before.

Between the missing finger and the homemade dress, Lucy is very unique.
