Artifact No.48 - Doll with the Moving Eyes

Another recent thrift store find, this doll appears to be one of a kind! First of all, not only do her eyes open and close, but they also move side-to-side. Google tells us the side-to-side movement is what was once referred to as “flirty eyes”. Not sure how flirty it makes you feel, but it certainly creeped us out. Ironically, the “flirty eyes” are the only thing Google seems to be able to tell us about this doll. It can’t find a single image of this doll on the internet.

She’s got brown hair, blue eyes with some amazingly long eyelashes and the words “made in Taiwan” on the bottom of her shoes. The doll is dressed in a blue velvet dress with a white lace underskirt and pink flowers down the front of her dress. She looks like quite the diva! Her body appears to be plastic and we think there is some sort of groan tube in her chest because when you tilt her body sometimes, she sounds like she’s lets out a strange noise. She is on a stand, and is about 10 inches tall.

This is another item we have with mysterious stains, but this time they are on her back. There is also a strand of hair glued to her forehead and what looks like some glue around her mouth. Chris said the dress reminds him of a flamenco-style dress, which makes Sheryl wonder if maybe the doll had a flower glued to her mouth at one point.

Either way, this doll is certainly unique. We don’t know how old she is, but she does seem to be quite old. It looks like the flowers on her dress have some extensive sun-bleaching.
